Project Description

Neurofeedback Training

Neurofeedback is a 50-year-old practice of non-invasive direct training of brain function that addresses problems of brain disregulation, by which the brain learns to function more efficiently and allows an individual to learn voluntary control over his/her brain’s electrical activity or “brainwaves”.

Neurofeedback is widely recognized as a safe, complementary, and alternative method to addressing many common physical, emotional, and behavioral concerns such as Anxiety, Depression, ADD/ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Sleep Disorders, Autism, Strokes, Seizures, Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI’s), Chronic Pain, Headaches and Migraines.

Through a process called neuroplasticity, research has proven that the brain has the ability to learn from its experiences and the environment. Often, Neurofeedback is referred to as exercise for brain or brain training. With repetition, it works to help keep our brain fit, flexible, and resilient.

Benefits

Neurofeedback is a learning process in which symptom changes take place gradually, over a period of time. The brain is trained to change patterns associated with symptoms, once the new patterns are learned they often last with no further treatment required.

  • Strengthen attention, focus, learning, memory, creativity and intuition;
  • Gain greater control of behavior, emotions, and racing thoughts;
  • Stabilize mood and aid in dealing with past traumatic experience;
  • Improve sleep, appetite and other physical functions;
  • Overcome chronic pain and fatigue conditions;
  • Rehabilitate head injuries, seizure activity, migraines and irritable bowel;
  • Improve your ability to stay in “the zone” and perform at your peak.

How It Works

color of brain patterns in red, yellow, green and blueOur work together begins with an online survey and interview to determine your training goals. This information is combined with a Brain Map (QEEG) in order to get the best possible picture of how your brain is currently functioning. I then compare the picture of your brain function with the symptoms you report to develop your brain training plan.

Together, trainer (me) and the trainee (you) will implement a plan for sessions that usually last 45-60 minutes, 1-2x/week. Most people begin to see results within as little as 2 or 3 with some needing more, the overall number of sessions needed is determined by your training goals and how quickly your brain/body responds.

Depending on your goals, in addition to neurofeedback training, I can help you optimize brain health and neural function through the use of EFT/TFT (Tapping), Brain Fitness Coaching, Emwave (Heartmath – Breathing), Meditations, Hypnosis or Energy Healing.

“Brainwaves” are the electrical impulses generated by the brain to help neurons communicate with each other.

If you have too much Delta wave activity in a certain part of your brain, it might be hard for you to pay attention in school.

If your Alpha and Theta waves aren’t working together properly, you might experience negative emotions.

Delta waves are slow moving waves typically associated with sleep.

Theta waves occur when you are dreaming or in a hypnotic or highly relaxed state.

Alpha waves are your “feel good” waves responsible for the production of serotonin and are dominant during relaxation and day dreaming.

When you spend too much time in a state of chronic stress, your brain will actually start to forget how to make Alpha waves.

Imbalances in the temporal lobe of your brain can show up as difficulty in managing anger.

Imbalances in the frontal lobe can impact a person’s ability to learn new information.

Brain Training can help train the brain function more efficiently.

Brain Training is based on the scientific study of neuroplasticity.

Neuroplasticity means that the brain is able to adapt based on experiences and the environment.

When your brain is balanced, you are able to sleep better, think better and feel better!

FAQ’s

Am I able to take my medications while training?2019-09-17T17:02:58+00:00

We highly encourage you to continue taking all medications as prescribed and continue to monitor those medications with the counsel of your prescribing physician.

Is neurofeedback safe?2019-09-17T17:02:34+00:00

Absolutely. The sensors attached to your scalp are simply there to listen to the brain; there is no stimulation or signal transmitted by the equipment. The brain does all the real work, adapting in response to the feedback.

Can I still do Neurofeedback if I am on medications?2019-09-17T17:02:24+00:00

It is always advisable to check with your doctor if you are on medications.

Please see LINK for further information regarding neurofeedback an medications.

Are there side effects to Neurofeedback training?2019-09-17T17:03:05+00:00

Some people report they are tired after training and others report that it gives them energy after training. We are all different and it is difficult to predict and it can change during the course of training.

Just as physical exercise can make us tired or give us energy, brain training is exercising our brain and it can cause some fatigue at times as it balances those frequencies. This is usually temporary, but does vary for each individual.

Is Neurofeedback covered by insurance?2019-09-17T17:01:46+00:00

A Brain Fit Life provides Neurofeedback as a training program and is not considered a covered medical or mental health treatment or therapy. Neurofeedback is considered alternative in nature and although medical professionals may recommend it at times for individuals, it is not considered therapy and we do not offer insurance billing.

Just as a gym membership or educational tutoring services are not covered medical expenses, but may benefit many people, the same is true for Neurofeedback training.

My child has a diagnosis, can neurofeedback help?2019-09-17T16:53:53+00:00

YES!  I have personally seen the improvement in my own children as well as the hundreds of children and families I have worked with over the past 4 years.

How effective is Neurofeedback, what kind of results can I expect?2019-09-17T17:02:43+00:00

Studies have repeatedly shown Neurofeeedback to be effective in a wide variety of clinical applications as well as for peak performance.

Clients can feel different after just the first session, although it will take several sessions for the new ways of working to be fully learned by the brain.

Just as different people learn at different rates, so do different brains, and some have more to learn than others.
